Rescued From Darkness

In the Bible, Jesus said, “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:32) Did Jesus mean that some people are actually so righteous that they do not need a Saviour? Not at all.

Jesus knows what is in the hearts of people, and that “no one seeks after God.” (Romans 3:11) The commandment then to “love the Lord your God”, (Deuteronomy 6:5), had been broken by all.

God therefore “commands all people everywhere to repent.” (Acts 17:30) However, those who refuse to see their need for a Saviour, will pridefully reject Him. This deeply saddens God’s own heart, because “its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 14:12)

The “way to death” is spiritual death, which means eternal darkness and separation from God in Hell. This is written in love to warn you of that.

The Bible not only reveals sin and everyone’s need for a Saviour, it also provides the promise of a living hope for those who humbly ask God to lead them “in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:24).

That way is not a place, it is a Person.... Jesus Christ.

Jesus said to religious people who rejected Him:

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.” (John 5:39-40)

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)

A prideful person might also reason that eternal life is only possible by continuously striving for it. Nothing can be further from the truth! God’s word says you can have that life right now. A person who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ has (present tense) that life.

“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1John 5:12)

If eternal life is in God’s Son, and you receive Him, what happens to you? You become a child of God!

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,” (John 1:12)
