Was Mary A Virgin?

Was Mary a virgin when she conceived Jesus? Was she found to be with child of the Holy Ghost?

Many people are unaware that the doctrinal position of the LDS church (Mormons call "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"), is vastly different than what the Bible teaches.

Mormon Apostle, Bruce McConkie wrote:

Christ was born into the world as the literal Son of this Holy Being (Father); he was born in the same personal, real, and literal sense that any mortal son is born to a mortal father. There is nothing figurative about his paternity; he was begotten, conceived and born in the normal and natural course of events. [Mormon Doctrine, p. 742]

On pages 546-547 of the same book, Bruce McConkie also wrote:

Only means only; Begotten means begotten; and Son means son. Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers.

Mormon Apostle, Orson Pratt wrote:

The fleshly body of Jesus required a Mother as well as a Father. Therefore, the Father and Mother of Jesus, according to the flesh, must have been associated together in the capacity of Husband and Wife . . . He had a lawful right to overshadow the Virgin Mary in the capacity of a husband, and beget a Son. [The Seer, p. 158]

(Other sources you could check are: Journal of Discourses, vol. 1, p. 51, and Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p. 19.)

According to Mormonism, Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 teaches that the Father has a physical body. Therefore, their teachings deny the virgin birth of Jesus. This teaching also denies the clear Biblical teaching that Mary was with child of the Holy Ghost. Isaiah 7:14 reads:

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

The fulfillment of this prophecy is recorded in Matthew chapter 1. Matthew 1:18-20 reads:

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his Mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: For that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

The conception of Jesus was not a result of physical contact between Mary and God the Father. Jesus Christ's conception was of the Holy Ghost.

The teaching that God the Father had physical contact with Mary in order to produce Jesus in the flesh is false. Any source of falsehood should be exposed and rejected as coming from God. If it is not of God, don't follow.
